Most modern browsers provide a means of zooming a Web page in or out. Unlike dragging the browser window to a different size, zooming keeps everything on the page in proportion.
If your mouse has a scroll wheel on top, you can zoom in and out by turning this while holding down the Ctrl key on your keyboard.
You can also use a combination of keys to the same effect. In the list below, Ctrl-> followed by a symbol or number means you must hold down the Ctrl key while pressing that symbol or number.
| Browser | Zoom in | Zoom out | Restore |
|---|---|---|---|
| Firefox | Ctrl->+ | Ctrl->- | Ctrl->0 |
| Opera 9.6 | Shift->+ | Ctrl->- | Ctrl->0 |
| Opera 9.50 | Ctrl->+ | Ctrl->- | Ctrl->0 |
| Opera 9.23 (no Ctrl->) | 0 | 9 | 0 |
| IE 7 or higher | Ctrl->+ | Ctrl->- | Ctrl->0 |
| IE 6 and lower | Zooming not possible | ||
Try it now!
Addtional tip: You can hide the menu and navigation bars at the top of the browser by pressing Ctrl->11. This will show the page full-screen. To see the hidden bars temporarily, move your mouse pointer to the top of the screen. Press Ctrl->11 again to restore normal operation.
Note: Firefox and Opera are available free of charge by following either of these links. Both are much more secure and safer than Internet Explorer and also comply with the Web standards, so unlike the latter they can be relied upon to display correctly properly designed modern websites, including HKGS, while at the same time enhancing your computer's protection against hackers. They are quick and easy to download and install and will allow you to import your existing bookmarks from Internet Explorer. You can still use IE for any badly-designed websites that will work only in that browser.
